2017, A Year on the Road

2017
A Year on the Road...
“365 days
365 new chances ”
The year 2017 began on the border of Thailand in a little hotel. Unable to cross the border until morning, my mission team and I settled in for a few hours of sleep before we would become our own pack mules to walk across the border into Myanmar. Last year was a truly remarkable one. Having shot in seven countries and fourteen different states I feel as though it flew by... while also being one of the longest years of my life. It is a bit strange to think that a year can go both fast and slow.. but it did... And here I am beginning again in the fresh new year covered in white Wisconsin snow. What will this one bring?
At the close of 2016 I wrote myself a letter and tucked it away to read at the closing of 2017. I have carried it from country to country and state to state. Finally, I slipped away to break the seal and remind myself of what I wanted to say to 2018 Katie. The truth is when I wrote the letter I thought I would have settled down somewhere safe... I thought I would be dating someone wonderful, having fully healed from all the sorrows of the world, growing a photography business and killing it.
Clearly 2017 Katie didn't know 2018 Katie at all because I haven't settled in roots. The wonderful boyfriend is still in idea form, forgiving and being forgiven isn't always something you do only once and life looks different than that Katie girl in that hotel in Thailand thought it would. Sometimes the most amazing things happen when you least expect it... where you are aren't looking... when it seems to be backwards. It has been an incredible ride of ups and downs, plot twists, mistakes and mountain tops. I wouldn't trade this year of adventure for a year of success or enormous wealth... I wouldn't trade it for the world!
