Your Photographer
Hi! It's me. Your very own friendly photographer here to give you a little peek into my world as a artist, as Katie, and as a fellow human. If we are to be true friends - the kind that never looses touch with each other - I probably should let you in on a little secret. You ready for it? I may have a touch of crazy in me. Most of the time I try to hide it, but laughing is good for the soul and quite healing to the bones! While shooting I love to play around with clients and am usually caught belly laughing or tripping over something. I love all of you and hearing those seemingly insignificant details that changed your life. It is incredible to me to listen to heartbeat of another soul for the little time that I get to be with you! :)
Lately I have been thinking about the truly great photographers and the soul gripping images they take! What separates them from the crowd and throws them into the arms of greatness? I believe it is their ability to take risks. That probably sounds crazy, but as a fellow artist...one aspiring for the title of great (That feels so strange to say) I think perhaps a little crazy is just the ticket. What does it mean to take risks as a photographer? That was my next question. I think it means finding the perfect balance between good planning and letting go. An image does not happen if it is not backed by work. I simply must know my stuff. Great photography is never an accident. Handing my camera to a 7 year old would prove my point. The sweet child may have an eye for photography and a love for people, but without the knowledge of rule of thirds, good composition, ISO, shutter-speed, aperture ect. his images wouldn't be of very good quality. And yet... there is the letting go aspect. Allowing a session to turn into what it is going to be is the key in truly SEEING what surrounds you! A good place to start is by getting out of my own way. I have to forget about myself while standing behind my lens. Truly beautiful things don't ask to be seen they just are. Gorgeous pictures don't happen only because I am a skilled photographer, but rather because someone loves someone else, God painted the sky in the most magnificent way, the stars aline in the most glorious way... It takes more than you would think!
That being said I have a mile long photography bucket-list to share with you all! If we photographers were to be completely honest we all have one! These are the sessions and images that put the inspiration flame to the coals of our glowing hearts! These are the sessions we build our careers on! :) I won't share the whole list as it is too long and I don't know if our friendship is old enough for you to fully see my crazy, but I think the first five is a good healthy start! Ready?
1. A session in an apple orchard. How lovely would that be. Am I right?
2. Something with smoke bombs.
3. An elopement...preferably in Iceland, but we can go anywhere! ;)
4. Lemon trees. That's right... I don't even care what we do with them... they are just stunning and I want them in my life!
5. Utah... I am dying for some gorgeous girl to put on an incredible dress, grab her man and let me wander with them through Bryce Canyon National Park... Can you even imagine?!?
Well... now that's about enough out of me for right now! You'll just have to wonder what goes on in my head until next time I spill my guts and let you know what I've been dreaming about! :)
